Root Canals

Root Canals are needed  for a cracked tooth from injury, or even from genetics, a deep cavity, or any issues from a previous filling. A Root Canal is considered to a restorative dental procedure that is done when the center of the tooth becomes infected or inflamed. The crown of the tooth can, in fact, remain intact even if the pulp is dead.

Frequently Asked Questions

A root canal can be broken down into these simple steps:

  • Anesthetic
  • Remove the pulp
  • Antibiotics
  • Temporary Filling

A root canal is claimed to be a restorative procedure. Like many other dental procedures, the results of the procedure, long-term, will be based on the way that you take care of your teeth (brushing, flossing, etc.). Your restored tooth/teeth will require regular brushing and flossing just like other teeth depend on good oral hygiene habits.

Dr. Smith will be the person to decide if you are in a need of a root canal but common causes of damage to the pulp include:

  • Deep decay to an untreated cavity
  • Numerous dental procedures on the same tooth
  • A crack or chip in the tooth
  • An injury to the tooth
